December Luna Music is a musical project created by Jessica Rose Price, violist and composer/arranger. Rose has 16 years of musical experience and exposure, starting with viola lessons from Professor Paul Windt of Muhlenburgh College in Pennsylvania. She received private vocal instruction from Lunda Cornelius, for five years, and was also involved with Pennsylvania Youth Theater in dance and theater. She graduated from the Lehigh Valley Performing Arts High School in Pennsylvania and was a violist for the Young People’s Philharmonic & Moravian College Orchestra; she then went on to be the second chair violist for the Richmond Philharmonic in Virginia.

In the beginning of 2011, Rose was the violist and assistant recording producer of Gypsy Cat Project, a guitar/viola duo who performed in Tucson and Las Vegas. By June she started her solo music career, began composing, and tutoring viola students. Rose performed at many nightlife hot spots in Tucson, including People’s Imports, La Cocina, The Hut, Tucson Botanical Gardens, and at the Fox Theater with the Tucson Civic Orchestra. She also was a special guest on The Duke and Cat Show—Access Tucson, and The Breakfast Club hosted by BSceneLive. Her unforgettable viola playing & vocals have been heard alongside several other bands, including Dr. Meatpie, Cinder Bridge, Top Dead Center, Heaven’s Gators, Modern Feedback, and One Heartbeat. Currently, Last.FM, CauldronFM in the UK, and No Label AZ Radio, circulate air time for Rose’s original songs. The Hermetic Library featured December Luna Music’s original songs, “The Golden Rule” and “Tourniquet,” on the Magick, Music and Ritual series of anthologies. Rose is now performing with the acoustic band, THE PRICE IS RICE at venues all around the Lehigh Valley, Pocono’s and Reading areas, including the Sherman Theater, Sarah Street Grill, Revolutions, and The Gin Mill, to name a few. Rose Price was nominated for “outstanding string instrumentalist” for the Lehigh Valley Music Awards 2014. December Luna Music’s second solo album, Children of the Mystics will be released in the near future.

Magick, Music and Ritual 10, the one and only album release for 2014 from the Anthology Project, is being released around Autumnal Equinox, Sun in Libra, 2014, with 26 tracks and over 2 hours of music by 21 artists, new and returning voices, and some tracks exclusive to the Hermetic Library and this anthology.

The artwork for this issue was created by Terra Bosart and is an interpretation of Atu 0, the Fool, in Tarot. One way of counting years is to use a cycle of Tarot cards. The current year count is Anno V 0 which can be represented by, and thus can be seen as having correspondence to, a combination of both Atu V, the Hierophant, and Atu 0, the Fool.

In addition to the cover, for the first time, this anthology release includes two bonus images. The first is an illustration that accompanies the OrosKhaos track “The Great Descent”. The second image is a visual word play on “Magick Music Ritual” by Craig Conley, who appears on this release as part of the group Esperantoland. These bonus images are part of the download and are intended to offer an additional surface on which to reflect the feelings and thoughts developed by listening and deepened in relationship to this playlist.

The eighth issue from the Hermetic Library Anthology Project is being released on Lughnasadh in Summer 2013, at 15° Leo. This is the penultimate album in the second full year of releases, planned for all four quarters in 2013. Magic, Music and Ritual 8 brings together 9 tracks, from new and returning artists, with an hour of music in this ongoing series.

The artwork and design of this issue was created by Mustafa al-Laylah. This is the third of a full series of covers which will span the entire year. The cover design of this issue is the lower left quadrant from the full set of covers this year which can be combined to make a larger image, a collectable poster that combines the elements of all four seasons. The lower left quadrant, in this case, being related to a position on the wheel of the year and the typical correspondences between this time of year, this Summer season, and various things associated such as magical weapon, element, zodiac, cherub and so on. Mustafa has done a great job in combining various correspondences into a compelling and interesting image for this cover, and we can all look forward to seeing the whole image revealed through the rest of the year.

The Hermetic Library at Hermetic.com has an overall vision of Archiving, Engaging and Encouraging the living Western Esoteric Tradition. I started the benefit anthology project to help promote newer works in the Western Esoteric Tradition to the audience of the Hermetic Library and beyond. The anthology project also further raises awareness about the corpus and culture of magick and ritual.

This Summer 2012 issue of from the anthology project is the fourth release but also the penultimate album in the first full cycle of seasons for the anthology project. Magick, Music and Ritual 4 brings together over 3 hours of music which span 2 physical CDs plus a bonus track for digital downloads.

I’ve given somewhat poetical names to the several parts of this issue based on how each part of the overall playlist felt to me as I was putting it together. The first part of this issue seems to me carries the feeling of Summer during the day, that gives the gift of the Voice of the Sun. The second part seems like a darker journey reminiscent of the Summer at night, offering a Vision of the Moon. The bonus track is a binaural meditation that could be taken as that liminality in the very dark before the light returns when consciousness is altered, a dream time when is heard the Silence of the Stars. These three parts are each distinct, in that they have each a character of their own, but they also participate in a complete and contiguous playlist.

The artists who have participated on this anthology album span continents, languages, countries, and regions. There are a variety of ages, experience levels, styles here as well. Some artists have participated before on anthology albums or in the Hermetic Library sound pool, while some have not been heard before in either.

The ongoing visual theme of the anthology covers has past the bright promise of Spring, represented in the previous, and now smolders in the crazy-making heat of Summer. The Sun has conquered the sky and this brings the leisurely joy of wealth, the ecstatic exertion of work and also the weary climax of both.

Summer to me is a union of many opposites that transcends the abyss of differences. This issue of the anthology seems to be an exploration of that idea and feeling.

I encourage you to check out the Hermetic Library at Hermetic.com, if you aren’t already familiar with it, as that’s the reason this project exists and may also offer inspiration to you. The site was started in 1996 and has ever since consistently been an extremely popular resource for students and researchers interested in the Western Esoteric Tradition. You may also wish to check out other posts at the Hermetic Library blog and the Twitter and Facebook reflections to see how the library engages people in a living Western Esoteric Tradition.

Please join the Hermetic Library in promoting these artists who have contributed their work to this benefit anthology album project. All proceeds from album sales will support the library to help cover hosting costs and other expenses like materials acquisitions.
