In the Company of the White Rabbit

In the Company of the White Rabbit
(Radio Free Clear Light)

Radio Free Clear Light is a collective of artists devoted to experimental, electro-acoustic improvisation music as a collaborative mystical practice. Our approach draws its inspiration from Thelemic and Discordian thought, and other schools of esoteric wisdom. We use digital and analog electronics, found sound sources, vocals and a variable set of traditional musical instruments in an improvisational process that yields results as eerie as they are sublime. Stylistically speaking, our output contains elements of dark ambient, industrial, dub, IDM, minimalism, noise, shamanic and psychedelic musics, drones and free jazz.

Central to our philosophy is that all people are musicians, whether or not they believe themselves to be. It is our intent to create spaces of musical freedom where all people are participants, actively creating the unique and changing soundscape with their presence and sustained attention. In this way, the music created is always site-specific, altered each moment by the environment and musical contributions of the those in attendance.

Research on presence
has brought to us
a blindingly strange
understanding.

In order to evoke an illusion
it is said
things might work better
in the company
of the white rabbit.

Thereafter we are set free
to explore different mediations
of virtual reality.

Then again, snow
despite its being a major concept
in this field,
is most often overlooked or confused
in various studies
in the field of cognition.

Such problems can’t be avoided
without the help of
external perceptual inputs.
Soon the entire process
tends to disappear,
dismembered.

It will go on to form
a space-time referent
in which one will
be able to experience
a particular sensation.

Various theories
have been proposed
They all amount to
gooble gobble
gooble gobble.

Electric fire
purely evoked
by our mind
becomes
the dream.

One day he noticed a flier advertising for a director of training.
This was, of course, not his first stint in the desert.
By that time he no longer believed in a uniform, absolute time.
“But we cannot possibly ignore certain pathological aspects of the subject,” he wrote.
“I will analyze the actions of men as if it were a question of lines, of planes, and of solids.”

He applied for the job and eventually got it.
He then projected an infinite series of times,
and he postulated that he could get humans
to choose the path he designated.

“Each choice we make feels to us as if it must be unique,” he wrote.
He found a human community nearby
and began to notice that in a growing, dizzying net of divergent choices
a choice could be handled by his intellect as any other object is handled in a lab.
“They came to me to solve problems,” he wrote.
They wanted him to lay bare the causes in which the choice originates.
They didn’t really know what he was doing with the tangled webs of their lives.

In later years, he focused more on mass psychology than on individual intelligence,
on convergent rather than parallel times.
“A deep consideration came upon me”
“It was me,” he wrote. “It was just me all along.”
It was then that he developed a full-blown systematic approach to training,
involving a great network of choices which approached one another.
“I am no such thing as many. I am MYSELF, MYSELF alone. That’s what each of us believes.”

He built three pieces of equipment
each of which forked, broke off, and even became unaware of one another for centuries.
This game eventually became immensely popular
as it embraced all possibilities of time,
all conceivable choices
all possible outcomes.
His name has long been lost but the game persists in the desert
where the lines can almost be seen with the naked eyes.

Someday Together

Someday Together – Live at Symbiosis 2″ is a track added by rfcl (aka Radio Free Clear Light) in the Hermetic Library audio pool.

“Once upon a time, many years ago, there was a young woman.
She was very sad because she had been hurt.
To guard against a possible rebellion,
her father had implanted an electronic organ at the base of her spine,
so as to stop her from becoming intelligent.

She became wild, bohemian, impulsive and more than a touch batty.
She didn’t realize that her miracle was standing atop someone else’s sacrifice.
(At that time, at that place, who was actually there and who was not?)
I told her there was no need to be ashamed, because the memory she possessed was a worthy one.

“I know that you’re the same as myself.
Your eyes are like those people who can’t help wanting to make memories last forever.”
I knew then that only those with beautiful memories are allowed to wish.
And like with most cases of love at first sight,
one cannot describe what exactly just happened.
(Often, feeling something intuitively is no more than a device for committing oneself to it
while signaling that one is not going to provide any further arguments for this course.)

If only those days could last forever, if only I could still be what I was back then.
But eternity doesn’t exist in this world, does it?
(There was nothing wrong in principle with metaphysics the way she had practiced it.)
“Now it’s my turn to go to you,” she said to me.

The dominant influence in her life had been the religious guru G.
“You remind me so much of G. when I loved him.
But he could never be my prince.”
G.’s long-winded teachings are hard for me to summarize.
He set before himself the goal of figuring out the basic ontological structure of the universe.
All she could actually do was keep repeating to herself:
“This is good, very good, so very good.”

“No matter where you are, I’ll find you for sure.”
I left of my own free will.
That sort of sacrifice is what is always demanded.
But she stayed with his corpse for days after his death.

“Wait for me”
One can have an argument that starts out with good premises,
but reaches its conclusions in a way that is logically unwarranted.
And yet the conclusion may work.
(This could refer to some magical ability only she possessed.)

The way before me had been prepared.
I think I had bumped onto it a long time ago.
I had latched onto the rose-colored idea of friendship,
trying to make it last forever.
Anima & animus, brother & sister, princess & prince.
It was all a long, emotional monologue
about how we would both exorcise the ghosts of our childhoods.

Before I left, she said:
“Never lose that strength or nobility, even when you grow up.
I give you this to remember this day.”
My life may be just a moment,
but eternity means that this moment lasts billions of billions of years,
without end.
I want eternity.
Someday together we will shine.”

The ninth issue from the Hermetic Library Anthology Project is being released on Samhain in Fall 2013, at 15° Scorpio. This is the final album in the second full year of releases, and completes all four quarters in 2013. Magic, Music and Ritual 9 brings together 16 tracks, from new and returning artists, with over an hour of new music in this ongoing series.

The artwork and design of this issue was created by Mustafa al-Laylah. This is the fourth of a full series of covers which has spanned the entire year. The cover design of this issue is the upper left quadrant from the full set of covers this year which can be combined to make a larger image, a collectable poster that combines the elements of all four seasons. The upper left quadrant, in this case, being related to a position on the wheel of the year and the typical correspondences between this time of year, this Fall season, and various things associated such as magical weapon, element, zodiac, cherub and so on. Mustafa has done a great job in combining various correspondences into a compelling and interesting image for this cover, and we can all look forward to seeing the whole image revealed through the rest of the year.

MicroSpaces Remix

MicroSpaces Remix” is a track added by rfcl (aka Radio Free Clear Light) in the Hermetic Library audio pool.

“Certain authorities who claimed to know
vilified his treatise as ‘a book forged in the micro world.’
He claimed there were worlds hidden within the ordinary
and his book proved there could be no such thing as divine creation.

‘The lamp and painting you see everyday,
it was not made to serve any purpose,
it does not exist for the sake of any end.
The easily recognized shapes and colors,
they are simply a common structural component of organic molecules.
As familiar as your own face and just as inherently unknown.’

But if we dare to think that The Hidden is like us
we will certainly be dominated by the passions of hope and fear.
Instead we choose to live in parallel spaces,
spaces that bend and shift depending on the hour.

We maintain as certain that The Hidden itself
directs all things to some certain end.
We have become spies hidden in plain sight.
We say that The Hidden has made all things for us.

We now move through celestial time,
far beyond the familiar.
We recurrently set off cascades of cellular changes,
the kind of changes which were once believed to occur
only during fetal development.
But we found all this to be superstition,
grounded in ignorance of the true knowledge of The Hidden.

A local legend claims that in the woods off Highway One
sit the seven gates of the micro world.
There’s only one visible gate,
a rather ordinary-looking thing he installed
to keep people off his property.

We found the gates
and we changed our sub-molecular structure in adulthood.
The hidden universe was there,
tucked away in the crevasses
of the known and explored.
The gates appeared on the perimeter of our fire,
we could see it only with eyes that chose to take the journey.

We now exist in the micro spaces of self and time.
We stepped through all seven gates and landed straight in micro world.
We then attached ourselves to the sub-molecular structure
within each cell of our new hosts.

‘There is no contingency in Nature,
nothing which could have been otherwise.
Every shape infinitely transforms.’
We now know every word he wrote is true.

Curious trespassers sometimes sneak onto the property
in search of a direct route to the micro world.
So far, none have been successful.”
