The Contrarian's Advanced Magick for Beginners from Lux Eterna Records

“It’s finally here: the new full-length from The Contrarian, Advanced Magick for Beginners. The most personal Contrarian album to date, Advanced Magick boasts a broad musical palette and revealing lyrics. From the electric eden of ’60s Great Britain to American stoner sludge, this aural headtrip proves once again that The Contrarian is your overlord.

The record is available in three “Pay What Thou Wilt” packages, starting with an absolutely FREE 11-track digital download. But you might want the Advanced Magick III bundle, which comes with a rare, before-the-camera appearance by The Contrarian speaking candidly about what it took to make this record a reality. Trust us, this is as emo as the dude gets.” [via]

And What’s to Be Done with All of These Strange Angels

Hermetic Library anthology artist The Contrarian has a new collaboration with Arthur Leon Adams III out as Strange Angels called “And What’s to Be Done with All of These Strange Angels” which may be of interest. The hint of Jack Parsons is intentional here, but the overall concept is “a paean to bootstrapping California — those heady days of scientific and mystical exploration where the dream of Utopia met outright charlatanism, and where the elevation of body and spirit came crashing down in the relentless commodification of Eden” [via]. You can get a listen to the whole project or pick up the digital download.

Hermetic Library Anthology Album artist The Contrarian‘s new album Arjuna has been released and is available. The Contrarian’s track The Magician which appeared as a limited-time exclusive on Magick, Music and Ritual 1 is on this new album along with a number of other new tracks.

Dweller on the Threshold

“Based on early 20th-century weird fiction (HP Lovecraft, Arthur Machen, Algernon Blackwood, etc.), The Contrarian’s “Eldritch Musicks” delivers top-shelf haunt-rock that, while entertaining, also offers a glimpse into an eerie world of symbol and derangement.”

Dweller on the Threshold” by The Contrarian from Eldritch Musicks

“I am the Dweller on the Threshold and I’ve come
To ruin your present and future to come
I am the Dweller on the Threshold and I’ve come
To silence your chatter and sever your tongue
I am the Dweller on the Threshold and I’ve seen
The ashes and shadows that drift through your dreams

All through your dreams

I am the Dweller on the Threshold and I’ve found
The words never spoken, now whispered aloud
I am the Dweller on the Threshold and I’ve found
The circle before you will not keep me bound
I am the Dweller on the Threshold and I need
To feed your desire and bind you to me

Bind you to me”
