Already this week I re-introduced Hermetic Hosting, described a variety of site hosting options, and then outlined some really sweet and special discounts for early adopters.

But, there really are a lot of options for site hosting these days and I’d like to talk about why you might decide to have Hermetic Hosting as your hosting provider. I think using the services offered by Hermetic Hosting is a unique win-win-win for you, the Hermetic Library and for the larger esoteric community. Let me tell you why I think that.

 

Hermetic Hosting provides the infrastructure for the Hermetic Library, so allowing Hermetic Hosting to be of service to you helps the Hermetic Library be of service to the community as well.

Further, my conception of Hermetic Hosting is that it be in service to the community in other ways as well. First, by being uniquely responsive to the needs of the esoteric community for reliable and professional hosting services. Second, by being uniquely socially conscious and providing special discounts for non-profits, sponsoring sites for special organizations, and helping the Hermetic Library continue to offer a place for the sites of luminaries within the community and preserving archives of important community sites.

Moreover, I intend to reserve a healthy portion of any eventual profit from hosting services to create a fund with which to sponsor events, creative endeavours and research related to the mission of the Hermetic Library. In other words, I am committed to the creation of a philanthropic fund which will be used to award grants to important work within the community.

I think Hermetic Hosting can and will be an important and integral part of the community.

 

When I first started thinking about the opportunity I had to take on care for the Hermetic Library, I had in mind something like Hermetic Hosting. And, I did a bit of research; I talked to people. There have been other attempts to create hosting services specifically for the esoteric community, but it seems to me that the ones I found, that existed or exist, are usually far too narrowly conceived, being really aimed at a specific “current” within the larger esoteric community, or just simply not that well conceived. There may be one out there that is doing something similar to what I’m talking about, and doing it well; but, honestly, I haven’t heard about it.

What other options are there? There’s always the deals with the devil that can be had from the Walmart-like and Target-like hosting services out there. But, really, is hosting your esoteric site really served by that kind of procrustean deal where your money goes to lobbying Congress to destroy the Internet and dismantling the public domain, cruelly hunting elephants in Africa, or other bizarre, anti-employee and anti-customer and moreover anti-egregore, practices? Is that the kind of foundation you want for your work in the world and hosting you online?

Now, I do know there are also some really awesome hosting providers in local communities around. I fully support their work and I’m glad they are doing their best to be better than the large, impersonal and, frankly, evil commodity service providers. You could definitely do worse than working with one of these local and responsible companies. But, as awesome as those are, hosting with Hermetic Hosting specifically helps to support the esoteric community, and helps to support the ongoing mission of the Hermetic Library; and, obviously I say so myself, that’s something that is and will be completely and forever unique about Hermetic Hosting.

There really doesn’t seem to be anyone ethically and effectively offering hosting services to the esoteric community. I intend Hermetic Hosting to be the kind of service that I personally can be proud of offering and that I am proud to use for my own projects. It seems to me that the demographic in which both you and I exist is particularly difficult for traditional services to influence through advertising because such organizations and members are far more influenced by personal recommendations.

I hope that the reputation and service of the Hermetic Library will help Hermetic Hosting to meet this uniquely difficult and important need because the library already has had a vast audience for more than a decade. And, of course, I hope that Hermetic Hosting is able to be of service to the community in a reciprocal way that does justice to the reputation of the Hermetic Library as well!

 

In addition to offering a great array of standard services, the Hermetic Library and Hermetic Hosting offer some particular services to the community which are really unique.

Hermetic Hosting will offer special accounts to help non-profit groups get online inexpensively. We also sponsor important sites for organizations, in exchange for reciprocal brand awareness. While sponsorship is common, offering especially low-priced non-profit accounts is uncommon.

Further, by offering special hosting relationships with luminaries who wish to be hosted at the Hermetic Library, Hermetic Hosting provides the foundation for a unique and exclusive service offered by no other company. Many of these luminaries, because they are from the alternative community, need somewhere to host their materials that understands the community and supports making esoteric information available; and the Hermetic Library has been providing that service for 15 years already.
