The Ox

//by SD Master//

The Ox, being the first and most favored of God’s ear, was asked by Man to supplicate on their behalf, a question that Man needed to know. “Pray, ask God, on our behalf, how often we as Man, should eat”. The Ox, worthy of entreaty, and knowing of God’s respect for its requests, was pulled straight up and stood before God to repeat the question of Man. “Tell Man, that he should eat once every three days”, spoke God. The Ox, well meaning, though confused with letters and numbers, was returned to the presence of Man and reported, “God said to eat three times a day”. God, overhearing the Ox’s declaration, straight forth returned the Ox to His presence. Speaking, God struck the Ox dumb, and commanded It to toil in the fields to provide Man the additional food needed to continue their days. Hence the term: Dumb Ox (or in silence we speak).
