“Here is a dark folk, ritual folk, drone-driven tune, featuring a tagelharpa, a nyckelharpa, a Cologne lyre, a gittern, throat singing, frame drums and some dubstep bass wobble. It’s not pop music but, unlike many of our recent tunes, it is in 4/4 time; the musicians among you will know what that means.
The title refers to an ancient Gaelic festival held on 1 February, about half way between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It’s also St Brigid’s Day. St Brigid may, of course, be a Christianised version of the Irish goddess Brigid. From 2023, Imbolc, St Brigid’s Day, will be an annual public holiday in Ireland.”
