Broken Fire

Broken Fire
(Ace of Space/Paul Le Hat)

This is a solemn dedication to a dear beloved sister who quietly passed away in 2016 after a long illness. Also to the people involved in her palliative care, her family and friends who helped her on her journey. The distance between us never stopped us talking to each other about what was happening to her, we made check lists, issued directions, recalled the happy and sad events in our lives. I learned new things and re-learned things I’d forgotten about. On my visits we packed books and art works to be given away, added to those check lists, made food from our youth, reminisced some more, I became the artist’s assistant and we walked on shorelines and footpaths of her favourite places without fuss or complications. These simple things were her signals of reassurance.

Discontent is unavailable …

One man wave of cinematic electronica from Northumbria. Has so far produced five full length albums.

Whatever it means to Ace of Space it means capturing the moment, just like taking a photograph or snapshot, in musical terms. These eclectic collections are a mixture of old school electronica and guitar instrumentals and atmospheric soundtrack work.

Around the Strophalos

Around the Strophalos
(Ortega)

Around the Strophalos is the opening track of my recent debut EP Pagan Anthology. Thematically it is inspired by a fantastic cross between blues history and the ancient Hecate’s worship. Some year ago, I fantasized if in that famous mythical episode in the history of blues, bluesman Robert Johnson hadn’t sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads but, instead, invoked Hecate, Greek goddess of the crossroads. With this fantasy in mind, I lit a candle in the darkness of my home studio and, on a drum loop, I began to improvise the melody that would become this track. Its title comes from a fragment of the Chaldean Oracles. My friend Leonardo Reyes has recorded some guitar parts.

Utopia Eleison is a project by Israel Ortega (Caracas, Venezuela) who started on the grounds of prog and classic rock to later embrace electronic, ambient and world music. Today he is making computer-based music inspired by both multiple musical genres daily frequents and his love for books and literature. With his moniker Synth Avesta, he is also producing a more electronic/pop-oriented music.

Better Way

Better Way
(Logan)

Written by Kim Logan
Produced + Engineered by Brett Orrison
Recorded at Century Recordings in Dripping Springs TX
Kim Logan (vocals, electric guitar)
Ricky Dover Jr. (electric guitar)
Gyasi Heus (electric guitar) Cody Reid (electric bass)
Amaia Agirre (keys)
Houston Mathews (drums)
Brendan Lazar (percussion)

Kim Logan arose from the swamps and beaches of Sarasota, Florida after a decade in the opera industry, to write songs and make records in Nashville.

With her education from the Berklee College of Music, and years of the kind of hands-on learning you can only get in honky-tonks and on highways, Kim flexes her artistic muscles in every medium of art possible. In addition to the release of her debut self-titled album, Kim has penned published poetry and essays, consulted on and served as muse for a fashion designers and vintage curators, and collaborated with everyone from filmmakers, to burlesque and hoop dancers, to portrait artists, in interdisciplinary displays of performance art.

The second oeuvre of Kim’s work will be released in late Summer 2016. The first two chapters are produced and developed by the formidable sonic wizards Vance Powell (Jack White, Chris Stapleton), and Brett Orrison (The Black Angels). Kim continues to innovate, reinvent, and create from nothing. Kim is also an ensemble/comprimario singer with the Nashville Opera company, and can be seen in productions throughout their festival season.

A classic, craftsman’s songwriting sensibility, paired with sonic homage to each unique sub-genre in history which has influenced her, makes for Kim’s gap-bridging, line-blurring, time-traveling sound.

Translucent Grows

Translucent Grows
(Wauman)

Some weird combination of classic Berlin style electronic and minimal ambient with contemporary music mallet pace. I wanted to deep into silence.

Anantakara is a project of Philippe Wauman, from Louvain-la-neuve, Belgium, established in 2010. Anantakara creates live performances, choreography, sound design, meditative & healing music, soundtracks, and studio albums.

Balancing between a touch of madness and the caress of beauty, it forms a link between All and Nothing. The improbable frontier of infinity… Anantakara is an ‘in-temporary’ music project. The name Anantakara discloses its modest ambition: to re-enchant the world through wonderment while tirelessly pacing the inmost and outmost in search of the place where opposites meet, that startlingly unpredictable fortuitous point where regeneration and accomplishment are enhanced.

“Anantakara” अनन्तकर [an-ant’a-kara] is a Sanskrit adjective that can be translated as: “rendering endless, magnifying indefinitely, making endless or infinite”. That is, to start with what is somehow already complete, has always been and will be forever. To simultaneously combine the One which becomes Multiple with the Multiple that becomes One, to explore the sphere of influence existing between the diversification of the One and the unification of the Multiple. The spiritualization of matter, the materialization of spirit.

Choronzon

Choronzon
(Morrison)

The Choronzon EP, released on Panicmachine Records, is the first part of Xenomancer trilogy – the second and third EPs, entitled Oberon and Metatron, will follow on Panicmachine in due course.

“The name of the Dweller in the Abyss is Choronzon, but he is not really an individual. The Abyss is empty of being; it is filled with all possible forms, each equally inane, each therefore evil in the only true sense of the word – that is, meaningless but malignant, in so far as it craves to become real. These forms swirl senselessly into haphazard heaps like dust devils, and each such chance aggregation asserts itself to be an individual and shrieks, ‘I am I!’ though aware all the time that its elements have no true bond; so that the slightest disturbance dissipates the delusion just as a horseman, meeting a dust devil, brings it in showers of sand to the earth.”
– The Confessions of Aleister Crowley, chapter 66

“I must speak, speak, speak, millions of mad voices in my brain.”
– Choronzon, in the 10th Aethyr of Crowley’s The Vision and the Voice

Thomas Jude Barclay Morrison is a musician and writer from high in the north Pennines, in County Durham, in the north of England. He was born at dawn in 1975, and is named after Thomas Hardy and Jude the Obscure.

He has been recording since 1998, and has released music under his real name, as Tomb Zero, and as The Soviet Space Programme. His music has been released by Trilithon Records and Panicmachine Records, amongst other labels. He has collaborated with various musicians, including on releases with Finnish anti-gnome band Tonttu and Dutch industrial electronic noise outfit Dead Skull. His musical influences include kosmische musik, Japanese noise rock and psychedelia, space rock, doom metal, drone, noise, neofolk, Baroque-era fugue, and Javanese gamelan music.

Thomas writes Weird Tales – and the occasional essay or Godzilla haiku. His writing has been published by Panicmachine Records, the Lovecraft News Network, Esoterica Zine and Nightbreed Radio’s Necrofuturist Transmission. He runs the Hermetic Typewriter website, where he publishes his more occultism-related writings, and regularly posts microfiction on twitter. His stories tell of – amongst other things – flying saucers, extraterrestrial monoliths, ancient androids, clockwork gardens, doppelgängers, demonic parasites, blood sacrifice, black magic, and a variety of labyrinths, underworlds and alien planets. His literary influences include Gene Wolfe, H. P. Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick, Jorge Luis Borges, and medieval and renaissance grimoires and alchemical writings.

Lunar Pisces Temple Expansion

Lunar Pisces Temple Expansion
(Triefenbach/Day)

In this track ULU’s Lunar Pisces Temple session is layered, spliced, and overdubbed to compress the experience into a prismatic aural hyper-sigil. Analog effects and digital filters further ornament the sonic circle, and hymns and narration have been embedded for the home practitioner.

Sun Duel is an open-ended esoteric musical project of the Universal Love Upload, creating inspirational sounds for use by its members as well as the general public.

Over-arching thematic concerns include an existential examination of Self in its processes, such as the nature of Time as biological function and social construct, “Otherness” in gender and sexuality, and the co-opting of public spaces as sites of trance and transgression. We emerge in works of instability and hybridity. Through storytelling and the performative application of ceremonial and archetypal signifiers, we confront and inhabit Mystery, Cruelty, Joy, and the Uncanny.

This structuring of duration on site is achieved through theatricality, prayer/ focused intention, and the internalization of collage processes so that the resulting sounds, images and actions come to function somewhat as marks on a map, and the primacy of individual works is subsumed into conceptual clusters to be read in whole or in part- a system in continual growth and collapse.
