20 Years of the Da Vinci Code — September 7, 2023, London, UK

20 Years of the Da Vinci Code: The Inside Story From the People Who Inspired It with Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince, hosted by Atlantis Bookshop, September 7, 2023, London, UK.

Hermetic Library Calendar 20 Years of the Da Vinci Code 7sep2023 London Uk

“A TALK by LYNN PICKNETT and CLIVE PRINCE,
authors of The Templar Revelation
The Gardner Room at The Atlantis Bookshop
Thursday 7th September, 2.15-5.00pm
Cost £15

Dan Brown said of his phenomenal bestseller, The Da Vinci Code: ‘I got everything I needed from The Templar Revelation.’

Now, 20 years since the publication of The Da Vinci Code and 25 years since The Templar Revelation was published (with its first chapter entitled ‘The Secret Code of Leonardo da Vinci’!), Lynn and Clive will speak about the secrets of their immensely influential book – plus what Brown got right, what he got wrong and what he thought just too controversial in their book to use… Not to mention the inside story of what he nearly wrote, which would have been based on yet another of their books!

As the people who first discovered the secrets in Leonardo’s artwork, they will also reveal their new findings – some shocking and some plain hilarious. You will never look at his so-called pious paintings the same way again, especially with one particularly jaw-dropping revelation!

So while da Vinci was not the Messiah, he was certainly a very naughty boy….”

About The Templar Revelation: Secret Guardians of the True Identity of Christ [Amazon, Bookshop, Publisher, Local Library] by Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince.

Picknett Prince the Templar Revelation

“The most closely guarded secret of the western world is about to be revealed—and you will never see Christianity in the same light again.

In a remarkable achievement of historical detective work that is destined to become a classic, authors Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince delve into the mysterious world of the Freemasons, the Cathars, the Knights Templar, and the occult to discover the truth behind an underground religion with roots in the first century that survives even today.

Chronicling their fascinating quest for truth through time and space, the authors reveal an astonishing new view of the real motives and character of the founder of Christianity, as well as the actual historical—and revelatory—roles of John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene.

Painstakingly researched and thoroughly documented, The Templar Revelation presents a secret history, preserved through the centuries but encoded in works of art and even in the great Gothic cathedrals of Europe, whose final chapter could shatter the foundation of the Christian Church.”

City of the Beast: The London of Aleister Crowley, with Phil Baker – LIVE

“I dreamed I was paying a visit to London,” Aleister Crowley wrote in Italy, continuing, “It was a vivid, long, coherent, detailed affair of several days, with so much incident that it would make a good-sized volume.” Crowley had a love-hate relationship with London, but the city was where he spent much of his adult life, and it was the capital of the culture that created him: Crowley was a post-decadent with deviant Victorian roots in the cultural ferment of the 1890s and the magical revival of the Golden Dawn.

Not a walking guide, although many routes could be pieced together from its pages, this is a biography by sites. A fusion of life-writing with psychogeography, steeped in London’s social history from Victoria to the Blitz, it draws extensively on unpublished material and offers an exceptionally intimate picture of the Great Beast. We follow Crowley as he searches for prostitutes in Hyde Park and Pimlico, drinks absinthe and eats Chinese food in Soho, and finds himself down on his luck in Paddington Green–and yet never quite losing sight of the illumination that drove him: the abiding rapture, he wrote in his diary, which makes a ‘bus in the street sound like an angel choir!”

A Show for Claudia — June 24 & 25, 2023, London, UK

“A SHOW FOR CLAUDIA
Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th June, 7pm
The Cockpit, Gateforth St, London NW8 8EH

A night for those touched by the life and creativity of Claudia Boulton (19/04/1946 – 26/10/2021)

If you were lucky enough to encounter this wild, wise and eccentric being during her life, then you know you have to be there or be square!

In a theatrical experiment that Claudia would have adored, a group of her friends and fellow theatre-makers will live and work together for the week prior to the show, then come straight to The Cockpit to bring you – whatever the hell they cook up! All we know is it will fizz with all the theatrical panache and danger that Claudia was known – and loved – for.

Likely to be in the mix: live performance, audio footage of her talking about her life, table-top puppetry and extracts from her autobiographical play The Woof, celebrating the wit and wisdom of our dearly missed co-conspirator.

And of course, unforeseeable chaos of the best kind.

So don your sharpest hat – or dress entirely in orange – and be prepared for an initiation into alternative theatre, spiritual seeking and psychedelic counterculture through a life lived on the wilder side.

All Hail Dis-Claudia!

Concession price available for Students, Seniors and Cash Strapped Seekers.”

“All profits go towards the Claudrobe fund – a living archive project for Claudia’s extensive costume collection”

Ranging from Classical allusion, Edwardian theatre postcards, life-models, and cinema posters… Who was his wife? And were all those drawings really of her?”

Stuffing Shakespeare’s wife shaped hole with Hamnet and Hathaway

“Of the numerous puzzles about William Shakespeare, those concerning his love life are the most tantalizing. Why did he marry a local woman, Anne Hathaway, have three children with her, then decamp to London for a life in the theater? What was their relationship really like? And why do we know so little about Anne herself, whom one scholar has called a “wife-shaped void” in the playwright’s story? This year, the 400th anniversary’s of Anne death, might be the year we finally hear about this other Shakespeare. A volume of celebratory poems, “Anne-thology,” is being published later this month. A small bust of her has been unveiled at Holy Trinity church in Stratford-upon-Avon, where her body has lain next to her husband’s since 1623. And, most strikingly, a Royal Shakespeare Company production devoted to her story opens next Wednesday at the company’s Swan Theater in the town.”—In ‘Hamnet,’ Shakespeare’s Wife Takes the Stage, at Last

About Anne-thology: Poems Re-Presenting Anne Shakespeare [Amazon, Bookshop, Publisher] eds Paul Edmondson, Aaron Kent, Chris Laoutaris, and Katherine Scheil.

Hermetic Library Filling Shakespeares Wife Shaped Hole 12apr2023 Anne Thology

“For four centuries Anne Shakespeare, née Hathaway, has been in her famous husband’s shadow. It’s high time she had a book of her own.

This bold and ground-breaking volume places her centre-stage and encourages us to re-imagine Anne in her own right, and afresh for our own times. Anne-thology: Poems Re-Presenting Anne Shakespeare brings together sixty-seven newly-commissioned poems, one for each year of Anne’s life. Here, too, are ten poems of the past. The poetic voices that sing from this book are excitingly diverse in their age and background. Together they present a multi-faceted portrait of Anne’s identity and dreams.

Brave, moving, liberating, and witty, Anne-thology brings together Anne’s past and present and is a bold beacon, illuminating the enduring legacy of this remarkable woman for future generations.

Including poems from: John Agard, Vasiliki Albedo, Andre Bagoo, Robert Bal, Liam Bates, Sally Bayley, Charlie Baylis, Mathilde Blind, Jane Burn, Wendy Cope, Hannah Copley, Lesley Curwen, Rishi Dastidar, Olga Dermott-Bond, Imtiaz Dharker, Charles Dibdin, Carol Ann Duffy, Ella Duffy, Taylor Edmonds, Paul Edmondson, Barbara Everett, Ewan Fernie, Tommy Oliver Sam Flynn, Paul Francis, Wendy Freeman, Jo Gatford, Kathy Gee, Neal Hall, Susanna Shakespeare Hall, Judith Shakespeare Quiney, John Harris, Justina Hart, Lucy Holme, Maisie Ireland, William Ireland, Luke Kennard, Aaron Kent, Chris Laoutaris, Fiona Larkin, Nina Lewis, Len Lukowski, Anna Catherine Markham, Louise Mather, Andrea Mbarushimana, Fokkina McDonnell, Jennifer McLean, Andrew McMillan, Stuart McPherson, Jessica Mehta, Jenny Mitchell, Constance Naden, Grace Nichols, Richard O’Brien, Yewande Okuleye, Emilia Olivia, Caleb Parkin, Roger Pringle, Emma Purshouse, Yousif M. Our hotly anticipated new production of Hamnet transfers direct to London’s Garrick Theatre this autumn for a limited 14-week season from 30 September. Playing at Swan Theatre, Stratford Upon Avon, until 17 Jun 2023 and Garrick Theatre, London, Sep 30, 2023–Jan 6, 2024.

Hermetic Library Filling Shakespeares Wife Shaped Hole 12apr2023 Hamnet

“‘She’s like no one I’ve ever met… She’s like fire and water all at once.’

Warwickshire,1582. Agnes Hathaway, a natural healer, meets the Latin tutor, William Shakespeare. Drawn together by powerful but hidden impulses, they create a life together and make a family.

When the plague steals 11-year-old Hamnet from his loving parents, they must each confront their loss alone. And yet, out of the greatest suffering, something of extraordinary wonder is born.

Selling out ahead of its world premiere at the newly restored Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon this April, Hamnet transfers direct to London’s Garrick Theatre this autumn for a limited 14-week season.

This new play based on Maggie O’Farrell’s best-selling novel, adapted by award-winning playwright Lolita Chakrabarti (Life of Pi, Red Velvet, Hymn) pulls back a curtain on the story of the greatest writer in the English language and the woman who was the constant presence and purpose of his life.

Hamnet is a love letter to passion, birth, grief and the magic of nature.”

Hamnet adapted for the stage by Lolita Chakrabarti from Hamnet: A Novel of the Plague [Amazon, Bookshop, Publisher, Local Library] by Maggie O’Farrell.

Hermetic Library Filling Shakespeares Wife Shaped Hole 12apr2023 Ofarrell Hamnet

“In 1580’s England, during the Black Plague a young Latin tutor falls in love with an extraordinary, eccentric young woman in this “exceptional historical novel” (The New Yorker) and best-selling winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction.

Agnes is a wild creature who walks her family’s land with a falcon on her glove and is known throughout the countryside for her unusual gifts as a healer, understanding plants and potions better than she does people. Once she settles with her husband on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon she becomes a fiercely protective mother and a steadfast, centrifugal force in the life of her young husband, whose career on the London stage is taking off when his beloved young son succumbs to sudden fever.

A luminous portrait of a marriage, a shattering evocation of a family ravaged by grief and loss, and a tender and unforgettable re-imagining of a boy whose life has been all but forgotten, and whose name was given to one of the most celebrated plays of all time, Hamnet is mesmerizing, seductive, impossible to put down—a magnificent leap forward from one of our most gifted novelists.”

Esezeus book and album launch — May 12, 2023, London, UK

A book and album launch for Esezeus by Orryelle Defenestrate-Bascule on May 12, 2023, at Watkins Books, London, UK.

Hermetic Library Calendar Esezeus Book and Album Launch 12may2023 London Uk

“The London launch of Orryelle’s new hardback book on and of the magic of language, from Grayle Press (the new publishing imprint of Jack Grayle).

The event will feature readings from the book, including performative oration of verse, some sung with violin; plus signings wine-ing and divining.
Signed prints and original drawings by the author-artist will also be available at the launch.

Esezezus is an exploration of the Magic of Language, particularly in verse – both in the form of an exegesis on the subject; and also by example as it compiles over a decade’s worth of esoteric poetry by the author. This ranges from the cosmic and evocational to the personal, in a diversity of styles and forms.

Extracts of ritual theatre productions in verse are also included, and the work is richly illustrated by the author-artist in multiple media – drawings, oil paintings, and photographs from sculptures and performances.

As the central essay in this book explores especially the vibrational aspects of poetic language – ie when spoken or sung rather than only written – it comes with an album (CD & streaming code) of magical music by the author and collaborators, wherein many of the verses in the book are orated or sung accompanied by a wide range of musical accompaniment from neoclassical to experimental electronica.

Esezezus is a new word referring to the bliss of ‘Tongues’ as both physical vessels of language and languages themselves. As the Word (made flesh) ‘Language’ itself comes from French Langue meaning Tongue (the organ) they are really one, and can only thus be differentiated or split by speaking/act- ing with Forked Tongue (dividing the concept and its means).”
