The Mendicant

The Mendicant” is a track added by Child Mercury in the Hermetic Library audio pool.

Besides looking for an excuse to use my newly acquired banjo in a recording, the main inspiration for this song and lyrics came from The Fool trump card. Traditionally, The Fool is card “0” of the Major Arcana. It stands for no-thing, from which all things have their source. It represents the beginning of the journey of life. It also represents the emptiness full of infinite potential. It is divine consciousness. Therefore, it is a holy fool.

Silver Dusk

Silver Dusk” is a track added by Child Mercury in the Hermetic Library audio pool.

“‘As above, so below’
– Hermes Trismegistus

The title is inspired by the magickal movement of the same name, founded by Orryelle Defenestrate-Bascule. It is supposed to be in direct counterpoint to the more traditional methods of The Golden Dawn; Focusing more on inspiration and improvisation.”

The Hermetic Library audio pool is a participatory place for sharing sounds and music of a living Western Esoteric Tradition. Music and performance can be a form of ritual and magick. Works and artists have long been inspired by the ideas of Western Esotericism and Mysticism. This group is to help create a space for sharing, music and other audio, and connecting with artists who feel drawn to these topics and ideas, or, especially, incorporate and manifest ritual and magick in their works. If you would like to submit your work for consideration as part of the audio pool, head over to the Hermetic Library audio pool or contact the librarian.

Procession of the Rice Bowls

Procession of the Rice Bowls” is a track added by Child Mercury in the Hermetic Library audio pool.

“Inspired by the sound of my rice cooker. One night I noticed that the metal bowl of my rice cooker made a pleasingly sonorous sound when hit.
It made me think of a twilight march of the villagers towards towards a temple; Foxfire flickering around them.
I decided to take advantage of this and create a song based around this sound. Did I mention how much I love my rice cooker?
lyrics
We shall not reach the rice field by nightfall.
Let’s all rest by the shrine.”

Blinded by Magick

Blinded by Magick” is a track added by Child Mercury in the Hermetic Library audio pool.

“This is a folk cover of Thomas Dolby’s ‘She Blinded Me With Science.’
It is something I have always wanted to do.

The trial and error method behind science and magick is not so different after all, and one becomes a mirror to the other.

Dedicated to Tomo Morita.
Thank you for all your support and encouragement.”
