The Text-Book of Advanced Freemasonry

Hermetic Library fellow T Polyphilus reviews Text-Book of Advanced Freemasonry by Anonynmous:

This volume is an 1873 English exposure of high-grade Masonic materials, which I own as a Kessinger reprint. A.C.F. Jackson 33° in his history of the Ancient and Accepted Rite (1980) opines that the AAR portions of The Text-book may have been plagiarized from official MSS issued about 1870 by the Supreme Council for England and Wales. The higher degree AAR rituals are only in the sketchiest, most monitorial of editions, but the non-AAR materials are very interesting: a 19th-century Royal Arch ritual and several obsolete and side degrees. The Hermetic Library Reading Room is an imaginary and speculative future reification of the library in the physical world, a place to experience a cabinet of curiosities offering a confabulation of curation, context and community that engages, archives and encourages a living Western Esoteric Tradition.
