Enochian Call

Enochian Call
(Kobrin)

On Friday 13th April 1584 in Cracow, Poland, scientist and mathematician John Dee, and alchemist Edward Kelly made contact with Angels.

Delivered in reverse order to Dr Dee and Sir Kelley by an entity named Nalvage, in an angelic language called Enochian, this is the first of the ‘Enochian Calls’, of which there are 30.

The calls are used to enter the various Aethyrs, which are higher realms of consciousness, through visionary trance states.

The Aethyrs are conceived of as forming a map of the entire universe in the form of concentric rings which expand outward from the innermost to the outermost Aethyr.

These calls are a series of incantations in the Enochian language that when recited are supposed to inspire visions and insights and prophecies into the hidden nature of reality and the cosmos.

This is our performance and recitation of the first Enochian call.

Translated to English:

I reign over you, saith the God of Justice,
in power exalted above the firmaments of wrath;
in Whose hands the sun is as a sword,
and the moon as a penetrating fire;
Who measures your garments in the midst of my vestures,
and trussed you together as the palms of my hands;
Whose seats I garnished with the fire of gathering;
Who beautified your garments with admiration;
to Whom I made a law to govern the Holy Ones;
Who delivered you a rod with the ark of knowledge.
Moreover, you lifted up your voices
and swore obedience and faith unto Him that lives,
and who triumphs;
Whose beginning is not, nor end cannot be;
Who shines as a flame in the midst of your palace,
and reigns amongst you
as the balance of righteousness and truth.
Move, therefore, and show yourselves;
open the mysteries of your creation;
be friendly unto me;
for I am the servant of the same your God,
true worshipper of the Highest…

Jake Kobrin creates music with an atmosphere that is deep, mysterious, serpentine, and occult, hearing everything as if through the smoke stained windows of a Naga Temple, ashen Shaivites obscured by thick plumes of ritual incense, their aetheric eyes awake to see the dragons swirling through the smoke above them.

“I am inspired by the music that pumps fire through my veins and smoke through my ears. With this music pulsing through the soundsystem I close my eyes and cup my dark cloak over my face as every inch of my body is subsumed by plumes of dense incense smoke. The ritual has begun…”

With roots in underground experimental, progressive, goth, and metal music culture, and with a mind stained with the memories of all night raves at Burning Man, Kobrin is a bass music enthusiast and is influenced by the urban underground bass music culture of the UK, British Columbia, and California. Combining deep forms of dubstep, grime, trap music, drum and bass, and new and innovative genres of electronic music yet undefined, he creates atmospheric, dark, and dreamy journeys designed to awaken the inner fire within us all.

During these plague years, I’m delighted to be able to share this new anthology album. Curating and sharing these is a highlight of my year, and I’m glad to have this album as part of the ongoing anthology cycle that has now lasted for 10 years. Though there’s been changes, and variations, and a lacuna, these have been a constant welcome rhythm through the years for me. Hopefully for others as well, this can provide some joy and comfort that the cycles in our lives continue no matter how rough the road may be along the way.

The Hermetic Library at Hermetic.com has an overall vision of Archiving, Engaging and Encouraging the living Esoteric Tradition, Hermeticism, Aleister Crowley’s Thelema, and more through Open Access Occultism for 25 years. Yes, this is the 25th year, the silver anniversary, of the library!

I started the benefit anthology project to help promote newer works in the Esoteric Tradition to the audience of the Hermetic Library and beyond. The anthology project also further raises awareness about the corpus and culture of magick and ritual. The site itself was started in 1996 and has ever since consistently been an extremely popular resource for students and researchers interested in the Esoteric Tradition. I encourage you to check out Hermetic Library and everything in the collection there, if you aren’t already familiar with it, as that’s the reason this project exists and may also offer inspiration to you.
