This fifth album from the Hermetic Library Anthology Project is being released on Samhain in Fall 2012, at 15° Scorpio. This fifth issue completes the first full year of releases, one on all four quarters in 2012. Magick, Music and Ritual 5 brings together 16 tracks by 14 artists with over 2 hours of music which spans 2 physical CDs.

Two parts of this playlist seem to have developed for me a ritual structure, or at least a passage through liminality. The first part is an arrival which is also the departure from normal place and time and the second part is a departure from a place of imagination but also a return to world, having perhaps changed ourselves and world in the meantime. Beginning with a two-part track that develops from a mostly unadorned oud playing a lament and then unfolds in the second track to reveal a heavily processed and altered dirge; thus the circle of the ritual is cast. We move further into liminal place and time with a series of tracks leading deeper into the unknown, offering a self-reflection with mysterious overtones. This is an unfolding descent into a metaphorical and allegorical darkness that paradoxically reveals us to ourselves. The ritual progresses to a lacuna between parts, a space where in ritual one might do a specific working. You may decide each time you listen to take advantage of this place and time between parts to interact with this playlist by enacting your own work here in the space prepared by you and these artists. The second part of the playlist lifts us back through an ascent that returns us, not ourselves the same nor to the same world from which we departed but to see with new eyes a place slightly different than before. We have polished our vessel through travel into the self and have become better prepared to share our specific gifts with the world. Like the long delayed return of Odysseus, we are entering a season of increasing darkness from which light is inevitably liberated.

This cover for this issue was designed and illustrated by Valerie Herron. When I think of the top heaviness of antlers, I actually think of the looming ominous canopy of fall trees in the dark with their skeleton arms and fingers sloughing off leafy skin. I also think of the way that the tree of life looms large above the single point at Malkuth, such a long, tall and precarious spectral ladder to the stars … a place, perhaps, where the dark romance of both old school esotericism and new American Gothic meet.

The Hermetic Library at Hermetic.com has an overall vision of Archiving, Engaging and Encouraging the living Western Esoteric Tradition. I started the benefit anthology project to help promote newer works in the Western Esoteric Tradition to the audience of the Hermetic Library and beyond. The anthology project also further raises awareness about the corpus and culture of magick and ritual.

I encourage you to check out the Hermetic Library at Hermetic.com, if you aren’t already familiar with it, as that’s the reason this project exists and may also offer inspiration to you. The site was started in 1996 and has ever since consistently been an extremely popular resource for students and researchers interested in the Western Esoteric Tradition.

Please join the Hermetic Library in promoting these artists who have contributed their work to this benefit anthology album project. Please also spread the word about these anthology albums to people you think may be interested in the work of artists who combine magick, music and ritual.

The physical CD of the Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1

If you follow the library on twitter, you got a sneak peak already, but I wanted to post some nice images of the physical CD of the Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1. These have started to arrive for those that ordered them, although the disc winging its way to Australia may still be in transit …

As a reminder, I’ve announced the call for submissions for the next Hermetic Library Anthology Album, with a deadline of Jan 15th, 2012, to be released in early February. Help spread the word about both the first album which is available now, and the deadline for the coming album!

Anyhow, back to the physical disc … This looks fantastic! I did the design for these and they are professionally pressed by the same company that SickTanicK of SKR uses for his releases. It turned out really great, I think. I hope you agree!

The anthology physical CD is available, along with digital downloads, for you to spend all that money you got by returning things received yesterday for Consumermas Merry Mithras!

“My blood boils with rage it burns slow like sage and with every song i write
I fill up another page in this grand grimoire you can open doors mentally
Let my words sink into your pores and into your mind you’ll never know
What you’ll find these premonitions or more than a simple sign its more
Deep than mankind more deep than a false savior more deep than the hands
Of time it’s like every word i say is a part of this puzzle don’t be mistaken
The answers is forever shuffled within the artwork tracks and numbers
This is initiation for it you must suffer take my hand let me lead you straight
Into the fire you bought the record so it must be what you desire i am the
Prophet speaking to my congregation disciples now prepare for the path
Of initiation

This is the path of initiation the cycle of death brings forth creation
You must die for illumination divination is your destination

So you say that you want to be your own god (yes) do you accept these
Words as your one law (yes) so mode it be love is the law love under will
Follow the steps your desires will be fulfilled never put any god before yourself
Reject the lies put religion back on the shelf and let go of your false
Hopes and all fear without death there’s no reason for being here
Death is certain but life is not so you got to live life like your digging your own
Plot bury yourself with knowledge and power become a Therion cause a Therion
Devours everything in its path do the math for addition to anything in life
You must subtract i am the priest speaking to my congregation disciples
Now prepare for the path of initiation

This is the path of initiation the cycle of death brings forth creation
You must die for illumination divination is your destination

Stand tall like an obelisk place your hand on your chest with your left let it be
Expressed to the east draw the pentagram repeat on all four sides and accept
That you reject the lamb six candles five black and one white to become a part
Of darkness you got to understand the light then meditate for as long as it takes
And let go of everything you know and mentally masticate once you reach your
Peak stand up on your feet and decree

There is no god above me there is no god below me BABALON is my mother
And she loves me

A true gift of every sin where the next path starts the old one ends yeah
I am the priest speaking to my congregation disciples take heed to this path
Of initiation

This is the path of initiation the cycle of death brings forth creation
You must die for illumination divination is your destination

This is the path of initiation the cycle of death brings forth creation
You must die for illumination divination is your destination”

Excerpt from “The Pentagram” by Aleister Crowley

“In the years of the Primal Course, in the dawn of terrestrial birth, Man Mastered the mammoth and horse, and Man was the lord of the earth.

He made him a hollow skin from the heart of a holy tree …”

“The Sun” from V: OF THE OFFICE OF THE COLLECTS WHICH ARE ELEVEN IN NUMBER, Liber XV, book 15, Ecclesiæ Gnosticæ Catholicæ Canon Missæ by Aleister Crowley

“Lord visible and sensible of whom this earth is but a frozen spark turning about thee with annual and diurnal motion, source of light, source of life, let thy perpetual radiance hearten us to continual labour and enjoyment; so that as we are constant partakers of thy bounty we may in our particular orbit give out light and life, sustenance and joy to them that revolve about us without diminution of substance or effulgence for ever.

So mote it be.”

The Hermetic Library at Hermetic.com has an overall vision of Archiving, Engaging and Encouraging the living Western Esoteric Tradition. This is an anthology album of tracks by artists inspired by or who incorporate ritual and magick in their work. This anthology album will help promote artists to the audience of the Hermetic Library and beyond. It will also further raise awareness about the connection between magick, music, and ritual.

Over the last year, as a project of the library, I have created a group at SoundCloud, the Hermetic Library audio pool, for tracks and artists inspired by or manifesting the Western Esoteric Tradition. With this group I’ve been working to raise awareness that music and performance can be a form of ritual and magick. This has been a space for artists to share their music and other audio, as well as connecting artists who feel drawn to these topics and ideas, or, especially, incorporate and manifest ritual and magick in their works with other artists and a larger audience.

I encourage you to check out the Hermetic Library at Hermetic.com, if you aren’t already familiar with it, as that’s the reason this project exists and may also offer inspiration to you. You may also wish to check out other posts at the Hermetic Library blog and the Twitter and Facebook reflections to see how the library engages people in a living Western Esoteric Tradition.

Please join the Hermetic Library in promoting these artists who have contributed their work to this benefit anthology album project. All proceeds from album sales will support the library to help cover hosting costs and other expenses like materials acquisitions.

Additionally, this album is being released on the birthday of hermetic.com which was Dec 3, 1996. This release date marks the Hermetic Library’s 15th year in existence.

Last few hours to grab the pre-release bonus track along with The Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1

I’ve previously announced the pre-release availability of The Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1 and in just a few more hours … this will finally be released into the world!

While that’s incredibly exciting for me, and I’ve been waiting impatiently to finally share the entire anthology with everyone, I want to mention once again that only pre-orders of the anthology album include immediate download of “Inner Conversation” by Mahatma Dalí. This is a 28 minute incentive track available as part of this digital pre-release in 2 parts, in your choice of MP3 320, FLAC, or other formats. This extra material really works well when added together with the entire album, but will neither be included in downloads once the whole thing is released nor will it appear on physical CDs of the anthology. So, if you’re looking to grab that, it’s time to get on that before it is too late!

Either way, whether you do decide to preorder the anthology or pick it up when it releases, please join the Hermetic Library in thanking and promoting these artists who have contributed their work to this benefit anthology album project. Please also spread the word to people you think may be interested in the work of artists who combine magick, music and ritual.

As a reminder, you can read the original announcement at Pre-release of The Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1 or head directly over to the anthology itself at The Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1.

Two new physical CD packages added to the pre-release of The Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1

I recently announced the pre-release of The Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1, and have just added two new options for those looking to also have a physical CD of the anthology.

The first option is to pre-order a “Compact Disc + Digital Album” and the second is “Compact Disc + T-Shirt + Digital Album”. Both include a CD professionally mastered by SickTanicK, and professionally pressed, with original cover and insert artwork by me, John Griogair Bell, the librarian.

Ordering the compact disc includes the full digital album, of which the two part pre-release bonus track is immediately available. People who pre-order the anthology will be sent an email when the album releases so they can download the entire set.

The t-shirt that is available is one of the fitted American Apparel men’s t-shirt with the Hermetic Library logo, made of ultra-fine, combed ring-spun cotton, that gets softer with each washing. These shirts are cut small, so size up for a looser fit.

Pre-release of The Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1

I am incredibly excited to announce the pre-release availability of The Hermetic Library Anthology Album – Magick, Music and Ritual 1.

I have been listening to these tracks for over a week now, as I’ve been getting this pre-release ready, and I think you are all in for a treat. These tracks are really quite amazing. I’ve got 16 total tracks from 15 artists, including a two part track as a special pre-order bonus. Including the bonus, this anthology is a wild 1.5 hour ride through a variety of music from musicians inspired by the Western Esoteric tradition. It goes from ambient and atmospheric through some vocals and then starts to hit hard with some rock and rap and then finishes out with a bit of noise to bring it full circle. I’ve been listening to it nonstop on repeat for this whole week, and I haven’t gotten tired of it. I’m really happy with it, and hope you will all like it as much as I do!

Pre-order of the anthology album includes immediate download of “Inner Conversation” by Mahatma Dalí, a 28 minute bonus track available only as part of this digital pre-release in 2 parts, in your choice of MP3 320, FLAC, or other formats. A link to the complete album will be emailed to you the moment it’s released on Dec 3, 2011.

Please join the Hermetic Library in thanking and promoting these artists who have contributed their work to this benefit anthology album project by picking up this pre-release, along with the bonus track. Please also spread the word to people you think may be interested in the work of artists who combine magick, music and ritual.

For this pre-release a 28 minute bonus track in two parts, “Inner Conversation” by Mahatma Dalí, is available immediately:

  1. Mahatma Dalí – Inner Conversation Part 1
  2. Mahatma Dalí – Inner Conversation Part 2

The full track list for this inaugural anthology album is another 15 tracks by 15 artists, another 66 minutes of fantastic music:

  1. Kim Cascone – Black Flame
  2. David Shoemaker – In Space, There Might Be North
  3. Mahatma Dalí – Whence Came You

SickTanicK track “Witness The Power”

Witness The Power” is an occult rap track by SickTanicK in the Hermetic Library audio pool.

“Touch my lips with the sign of silence …”

The Hermetic Library audio pool is an experimental auditory scavenger hunt for sounds and music of a living Western Esoteric Tradition.

Music and performance can be a form of ritual and magick. Works and artists have long been inspired by the ideas of Western Esotericism and Mysticism. This group is to help create a space for sharing, music and other audio, and connecting with artists who feel drawn to these topics and ideas, or, especially, incorporate and manifest ritual and magick in their works.

“Sympathy for the Devil” video by SickTanicK and a mixtape

SickTanicK [also] has been mentioned before, with several tracks added to the Hermetic Library audio pool. And, so you may be interested in a new SickTanicK video (mixvideo?) for the occult rap track “Sympathy for the Devil” and mixtape of artists on Serial Killin Records, a New Mexico indie label, which includes SickTanicK.

Yeah, that’s an edgy NSFW mixtape that is autoplay after the jump … well, there’s plenty on hermetic.com already to offend anyone at some point or another, and I encourage reading banned books too. So, there it is!

Okay, so the video got killed, so here’s just the audio track from the Hermetic Library audio pool:
