Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending May 6th, 2018.

This month I’m getting ready for a big move across country. So, I’m quite distracted by this looming event, and it’s my project all month long to get everything left to get ready ready. I’ll still be working on the library projects, of course, but I’m also getting ready for some time that I won’t be able to be online.

In the beginning of June, I’ll be disconnected and traveling; then, there will be a period when I have to wait for Internet to be installed again. I’m not entirely sure how long all that will take, so I’m planning on having a bunch of posts queued up on the blog and social media scheduled through June to post. I’ll hope it will be quick, but there’s no way to know yet. I’m looking forward to getting everything set up so I will be able to return to working on the site again!

I’ve don’t think I’ve mentioned this before but I’m essentially doing a reverse Oregon trail for this one. It’s a long trip, and I’m moving to a region where I’ve never lived. It’s daunting, but I have hope it will work out for the best! I hope the cats and I make it safely there and can hardly wait to get settled in the other side.

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending March 25th, 2018.

After last week, I’ve been in a bit of a tizzy and funk over having suddenly learned I needed to move house in a month, so I didn’t get posts scheduled to the blog for every day as I would have done normally. However, there’s been a few important calendar events this last week natheless.

Don’t forget that you can suggest calendar events, and help with the sections of the library about such things: the Forms page for collecting resources about various types of Calendar and the Hermeneuticon pages for events.

Today, I’ve also turned off the Project Wonderful auctions for ad spaces, at the main library side and on the blog. They haven’t been performing well for a long time, and I’ve been thinking about this for a while. As much as I hoped they would offer a great way for the community to reach out to the audience of the library with more relevant ads to our collective interests, there just hasn’t been enough use of them to justify the space provided.

Frankly, I’d have preferred to keep just a few well performing auction spaces instead of adding other ad ecosystems, but I’ve had to make several ongoing hard choices about what and how many ads to offer, more and different than I wish I needed, based on which ones actually provide support for keeping the site going.

There’s still lots of ways for the community to connect about goods and services, primarily the community announcements on the BBS, but also there’s ways to be featured supporters on the blog and library site, for example. And, if you’d like to help provide support for my work and keeping the library going, consider becoming a Patron, or the many other ways you can be part of making the magick happen.

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending March 18th, 2018.

This last week I sent out the first postal exchange of the year for Patrons with that reward! As a reminder, I’m switching things up starting this year off by planning to send smaller but more frequent postal exchange gifts to Patrons. And, now that the first one has been sent, I’m already planning for the next one!

In possibly devastating personal news, I learned this week that the place I have been living will be put on the market. In worse news, I learned that there may already be an offer, and I’ll have to move out by the end of April. Frankly, I’m kinda screwed. I don’t know how this will work out for me, but it may mean a lot of awful things for me and the cats, as I’ve currently nowhere to go and no money to get there. I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen.

I could really use some support from more Patrons to help out during this time, even just $1, each month, so if you can spare anything that would be amazing. You can also subscribe to Hermetic Library anthologies, over on Bandcamp. Another way to offer support is through the anonymous, nonprofit Liberapay.

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a Patron, now’s the time. If you’ve never thought about becoming a Patron, would you take a few moments and consider it? I’d love to be able to keep on doing what I’m doing, being of service, but I need help.

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending March 11th, 2018.

This last week I added a page to the blog that talk about ways that Hermetic Library is seeking others for community, contributions, creativity, event and news coverage, collaboration, and more. I’ve always been open to these, and I’ve had posts and pages about these in the past, but I thought it was time to put up a page on the blog which I could start pointing to each month, to keep the idea out there.

I also added a page about seeking help with new content on the site. This is something that I’ve always been open to, but in the past it was difficult to make it work in a way that was easy for people. Now that the site has moved from static HTML, which I hand coded, into the new wiki-based infrastructure, having others work on the site is much easier. The help I had in getting a lot of Crowley material up on the site in Portuguese is an example of how well that worked for everyone, both for me and for the volunteer.

With the generous help of Patron supporters, I’m now also offering a small honorarium for those that aren’t able or willing to volunteer, in addition to my thanks and an offer for a gratis anthology download.

There’s so much that could be done to provide even more service to the overall community of students, practitioners, academics, as well as the general public, who all visit the site.

As a side note, I also missed a couple of calendar events in the first days of March, so I added those as posts on the blog after the fact, but I’ve got all of March set. There’s a few new greater feasts this time around, marking the deaths of some additional people of interest to the community. I’m still open to suggestions for other calendar events that I should post about, throughout the year, if anyone wants to bring those to my attention so that I can add them.
