Summary for the week ending Mar 19, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending March 19th, 2017.

Happy Astronomical New Year! It’s just turned into Annus V:iii as the Sun moved into 0° Aries this morning, Spring Equinox, the beginning of the 22 day Thelemic Holy Season.

“A feast for the Supreme Ritual, and a feast for the Equinox of the Gods.” – Liber AL II.40

“The Supreme Ritual is the Invocation of Horus, which brought about the Opening of the New Aeon. The date is March 20.

The Equinox of the Gods is the term used to describe the Beginning of a New Aeon, or a New Magical Formula. It should be celebrated at every Equinox, in the manner known to Neophytes of the A∴A.∴” — New Comment on Liber AL II.40

Well, there’s 44 subscribers to the not-yet-an-email-list, so, I should probably start figuring out what the hell I’m going to do with it once there’s 93 and I have to actually launch it. If you want to help get it going, subscribe!

There’s been a couple pitches that came in right away, but the call for pitches is open and rolling. Early days, but I think the process is working pretty well. Patrons who have access to the Patron Lounge on the BBS have had a chance to review and offer feedback on these pitches, and will get to help review submissions when they come in. Hopefully we’ll see some fruit from this harvest published publically to the blog soon. Why not submit your idea for a submission you want to write for Hermetic Library?

The Post Office managed to lose a package I was expecting. It came in the door, and the put a parcel locker key in my box, but there was nothing in there. They tried to gaslight me and say I picked it up already. No, really! But I hadn’t been in to pick it up. So, now there’s this Schrödinger’s parcel flying around. Hopefully it will find out it exists soon. It has cool stuff from Quadrivium Supplies for the upcoming postal exchange!

It’s been a long sequence of cold, rainy days at the Abbey of the Library. I think it’s been over 2 weeks of rain or snow, mostly rain, now, though there was one day where it was sunny for a few hours. I’ve been working on a bunch of new and old pages on the site, as one does, and the cats are busy with cat things.

I managed to accidentally delete the old Hermetic Library shop on Cafepress. Oops! I was checking it out, because I’d posted an image of a mugs and t-shirt. I noticed some ghost shop in my config and went to delete it, but actually deleted the one I didn’t want to delete. Welp. Okay then. I was going to re-create it, but then … Cafepress is so last millennium, innit? I don’t know, but maybe I’ll set up shop somewhere else … or not. I think I sold 2 t-shirts in the last year, so it’s not like there’s a rush. But, darn, I sure did think I had a great joke with the mug which had “let it kill me” on one side and “let it fill me” on the other!

Want to write for Hermetic Library? Now you can! This is the big news this week: the open and rolling call for pitch ideas which was formally announced. I’d love to hear your pitch idea, and you can read more about the process of how a pitch will proceed from idea to being published as a post to the blog, on the library site, perhaps as a special issue for publication subscription Patrons, or, maybe, just maybe, if there’s enough material and interest, it might become time to start up that journal I’ve wanted to do!

One of the things that’s occurred to me since I posted that announcement is that if you are interested in reviewing books, I may also be able to get a copy of the book for you. If you’re interested in that, then for the question on the pitch idea form where I ask about compensation, select “Other” and mention that you’d like a reviewer copy of the book. Then, if we go ahead with that pitch, I’ll work on getting the book for you. So, got a book you really want to review but don’t have? Submit a pitch and let me (try to) get that book for you!

Summary for the week ending Feb 26, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending February 26th, 2017.

Rain, hail and snow at Hermetic Library abbey this week. Continued to work on the site, in between cleaning the satellite dish of snow and loading the wood stove. Close, but not quite close enough, to start sending out the postal exchange boxes, but lots of cool stuff came in for them this week. I’ve been showing pictures of what’s been coming in the post over on Instagram.

Summary for the week ending Feb 19, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending February 19th, 2017.

Been working through the site, cleaning import cruft and so forth. Still lots to do, but things keep getting more and more sorted. Traffic took a big hit, as expected, when the new site came into production, but it’s been picking up again as cruft is cleared and pages come back. Finished migrating Beth Kimbell’s blog, and am close to having all the posts from Colin Campbell’s moved. The list of new pages on the site has been taken over by repeated “sidebar” links, as I’ve been adding new navigational sidebars to lots of multi-part documents; but it looks amusingly like the same thing listed over and over. There was no mail call last week as I was stuck on the mountain, so nothing new via post; but I should have some fun stuff if I make it to town tomorrow.

Reached over 93 followers for Valentine’s Day on the new Hermetic Library presence on Instagram, which is, of course, arbitrarily appropriate.

Very slowly gaining subscribers to the as yet still nascent email list. Also noticed a few people dropping in to the new Hrmtc Underground voice chat, though I’m not able to hang out there much yet while I’m still on satellite Internet.

This week, I also created an online form so people could submit idea pitches for reviews, stories and articles for the blog. This is something I’ve been hoping to get to eventually. Thanks to the erudite and elegant Patron, Funding and Featured supporters of Hermetic Library and my work, a rank of excellence you could easily join, I’m just about able to afford starting this process! I’ve talked about this a lot as something I wanted to be able to do, and we’re just getting to the point where it will be possible.

Part of this is also thinking how to handle the submission workflow, and I think I’ve got that sorted out in my mind well enough to get things moving smoothly if submissions start rolling in. Whew! Build it, and they will come? I’m ready … I think. Egad, what have I done?!

Summary for the week ending Feb 12, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending February 12th, 2017.

Slow week on the blog, but I’ve been doing a bunch of work on cleaning cruft on the site, getting things sorted again, including some work on entries in the new Hermeneuticon pages. I also have been moving posts from the blogs of Colin Campbell and Beth Kimbell into their Fellows pages, as we’re decommissioning their old WordPress blogs. I continue to use the new Hermetic Library account on Instagram, and I’ve been posting some of the usual stuff, but so far I’ve also posted occasional pictures of the library cats and stuff I’ve gotten in the mail. After thinking about it, I also set up a Discord server for the Hrmtc Underground, which I probably won’t be able to use much until I can ditch the satellite Internet, which I’ve been stuck with up here on the mountain, for something reliable and usable (which is suddenly available now, after watching the telco install wires for months and months, as soon as I can afford it!); but check it out (and if you’re a Patron, you can hang out in the Patron Lounge!). There’s now 4 people signed up for a theoretical email newsletter, which I’ll start using when there’s 93 people subscribed … so, get in on that to get it started!

Summary for the week ending Feb 5, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending February 5th, 2017.

I started Hermetic Library on Instagram this weekend. Consider checking that out and following along, if you like.

What winter storm, comrade? I am quite warm.

I’ve had an account set up for Hermetic Library on TinyLetter for quite some time. I’ve not started to use it, but I’ve been contemplating the idea of using it for something. I could just use it to post the weekly summary to email, but I generally like doing something a little different for each channel I use, though there’s always some overlap. So, I’ve been thinking about something like weekly email letters with a couple of paragraphs of ramble about something I’m thinking. Maybe something I’ve been reading made me think of something that I’ll write about; or there’s something on the site that I’ve been working on that caught my mind for a moment and I’ll write about that. Maybe I’ll write poetry or start doing some art that I’l post. Maybe there will be some other special stuff I come up with just for those following via email. I don’t know! But, I’ll tell you what: If I get 93 subscribers to the email list, I’ll start using it. I’ll aim for weekly email letters. And, as long as there’s at least 93 people listening, I’ll keep going. Help get that started by signing up!

In the back of my head I’ve been flirting with the idea of setting up regular office hours, and a periodic voice conference; probably using a hypothetical Hermetic Library server on Discord, which I haven’t set up yet. Perhaps active participation will be for Patrons, but open for everyone to listen in. I might also record my side as a video and post that after. I wonder if that’s something that could be a thing. I’ll keep thinking about it, unless, you know, I end up just doing it. Now I’m just speculating, but I can imagine all kinds of vloggish things I could do (or a call in talk show?!), but if you’ve thoughts about that, or ideas you’d like to suggest, or if you’re into participating, then let me know!
