Summary for the week ending Jun 18, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending June 18th, 2017.

You may recall a while ago that I sort of accidentally on-purpose deleted the old CafePress shop for the library, where I had some shirts and stickers. You might not recall that, either the shop, because, well, no one went there anyway, or that I deleted it, because, well, no one missed it when it was gone, even me.

The shirts were too expensive even though I had my cut set to only $1, so really I was just working for CafePress for free, and there was shipping added to each, which came out to be, like, $30 per shirt. Insane, and rightly only a couple of people other than me bought any. (I actually wore my swag shirt out completely threadbare.)

But, I vaguely looked around for alternatives for a bit, considering the idea of starting up a new shop somewhere else.

One of the alternatives I checked out was Merch by Amazon (Hey, hey, thanks for the suggestion, Kane!). I was pretty sure I wouldn’t get accepted, since it looked like something for much bigger and more active swag game than I bring to the table. However, my application actually had a successful result.

It is only for offering designs on shirts, so I set up a four to start. Frankly the byzantine and Kafkaesque design approval process is a pain, so two of four designs were rejected for reasons which are not at all clear to me yet, other than I’m pretty sure they’re confused and externalizing their confusion on me to deal with. But, even still, that means there’s two that did make it online! Here they are! In a variety of colours!

They only stay online if people buy them, so I’ll add additional designs over time to replace these as they retire. That also means you’ve got to get them while they are available, if you want them.

However, in many ways this is a huge improvement. The designs are printed on premium shirts, but are half as expensive as the old shop. Also, if you’ve got Prime, there’s no shipping costs added. Although there’s rumours Merch will be opened in the UK, unfortunately for now it’s US only. All in all, in spite of a few sad trombones, a lot better that before.

There’s also pages for each of these two, and many more posters, on the site, most with a bunch of interesting relevant quotes, if people ask you for more information.

Get some cool propaganda swag from the Ministry of Information, spread the good word, and help support for the work of the library!

Summary for the week ending Jun 11, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending June 11th, 2017.

This week I set up the infrastructure to allow easily adding translations of library pages into other languages. I can add a number of languages, each mirroring the structure of the English language library, but for now I’ve selected a few. In the upper corner of each page is a flag icon which is a dropdown menu which offers crosslinks to the current page in the other potentially available languages.

If the page in a particular language doesn’t exist, the link goes to a note that says the page doesn’t yet exist and it can be added to the site. Currently I only have the main indexes set up, and I’m definitely going to need volunteers to take on these languages as projects, but they exist!

Check out the main library page in German, Esperanto, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and, not actually set up yet, Latin.

There’s a note at the top of each new language index to say that the translation is a work in progress, and the list of new and changed pages only includes those relevant pages within the language namespace.

Well, it’s a start! My personal hope is to have the existing content of the library offered in other languages. I’m also hoping that some new content in other languages can be added and then translated into English, and the other languages.

If you know of an important resource in one of these languages not currently available on the site in English, that should be available on the site, and that could be added as a project to translate to the others, let me know!

If you are fluent in both English and another language, and have an interest in coming on board to help with one of these new language mirrors, get in touch! If you know someone else who might be interested, let them know about the opportunity and then have them get in touch!

Summary for the week ending Jun 4, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending June 4th, 2017.

This week I announced the call for submissions for Magick Music and Ritual 13, the next Hermetic Library anthology, for 2017. I’ve also posting the call for submissions for GIT COMMIT GLITCH, the 2017 Odd Order anthology which you might check out.

Call for Submissions for Magick Music and Ritual 13

Of course the best way to get anthology albums is to become a Patron today! All Patrons get gratis download codes for new anthologies, and new Patrons get a gratis download for any previously released anthology. That’s two whole albums for just $1/mo!

Speaking of patronage, have you heard about the $10 Revolution? Consider pledging to set aside $10/month to support 10 different creators with $1 each. Then, spread the word to others about the revolution!

Send in your wild and wooly whatever occultura and esoterrata for the Zine and record something from the library site, or something reasonably related, for Reader’s Theatre. I’ll put out the next installment of those when I’ve got enough material. I haven’t been able to create either of these this year yet. I’d love to be able to, so send in your material!

Don’t forget! You can also become a paid guest on the library blog! Submit your idea pitches for articles, reviews, stories, or soever. Special thanks to all the Funding and Patron supporters for help creating a budget for these when they are posted!

Summary for the week ending May 28, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending May 28th, 2017.

Final couple of days for the Hermetic Library 2017 Funding Campaign which closes at end of the month. There’s some great perks available only during this campaign, including featured blog and website link and graphic spaces at significant discounts for a full year. Plus other fun stuff to be had, which hasn’t ever been picked up, like the one day mini conference, which would be crazy fun to pull together. Check that out and see if there’s anything that strikes your fancy, and join the campaign, which helps keep all the fun at the library going through the year for another year.

Next up is the call for submissions for the next Hermetic Library anthology, Magick Music and Ritual 13. I’ll be posting the call for submissions for both the Hermetic Library and Odd Order anthologies next month.

I’d love to do another Zine or Reader’s Theatre is people want to send in things for that. Once I’ve got enough material for either, I’ll put it together. Although I previously had put Reader’s Theatre up on the library Soundcloud, and since I’ve left that service after they killed groups, I have to figure out how best to present the next one; perhaps as a podcast within this blog.

And, don’t forget! You can submit your idea pitches for articles, reviews, stories, or soever for the library blog and actually, thanks to all the Funding and Patron supporters, get paid for those when they are posted!

Summary for the week ending May 21, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending May 21st, 2017.

The Hermetic Library 2017 Funding Campaign is still going, and it runs through to the end of the month. This hasn’t been as popular this year as it was last time, but there’s some great perks available only during this campaign, including featured blog and website link and graphic spaces at significant discounts and that stay up for a full year. Plus other fun stuff to be had, which hasn’t been picked up, like the one day mini conference, which would be crazy fun to pull together. Check that out and see if there’s anything that strikes your fancy, and join the campaign, which helps keep all the fun at the library going through the year for another year.

I’m starting to get ready for the next Hermetic Library anthology, Magick Music and Ritual 13. I’ll be posting the call for submissions for both the Hermetic Library and Odd Order anthologies next month, so I’ve got to get post and pages and everything ready for that.

The other day I noticed there were a bunch of people that had created accounts on the Hrmtc Underground voice chat server while I wasn’t paying attention. Seeing there are actually people there makes me want to do something soon. I’m still stuck on satellite for Internet, so it’s not been possible to do “open office hours” while I work on the site yet. The idea was that I’d sit in voice chat while working on the site, which is most days, from early morning until afternoon. Other ideas were to have call in talk shows or presentations, which I think would be fun, and I could record so there’d be an archive of them. Lots of ideas of what could happen, and knowing there are people interested has had me thinking more about how to make that a thing.

Although the Funding Campaign hasn’t been going well this year, so it’ll be more difficult to do than I’d hoped, I’ve been thinking about posting a “job description” for assistant librarians. Basically, I’m thinking these would be volunteer positions, but with a paid honorarium, not a job-job but not nothing, right? The idea is to finally start to Find The Others who would be willing and able to help out with content, communication, curation and creation at the library on the site, blog, BBS, and voice chat. If you think you’d be interested, let me know. One of the first things you could do to get ready for that opportunity is head over to the BBS and become active enough there so you gain automatic access to the “trust level 3” lounge. Or, something else! Get in touch and let me know what you’re interested in doing to help out.

And, don’t forget! You can submit your idea pitches for articles, reviews, stories, or soever for the library blog and actually, thanks to all the Funding and Patron supporters, get paid for those when they are posted!
