Aethyrs 2 panel 8 I will not agree

Lots of new pages and work on old pages on the site, which is pretty much every week, really. You can always check the front page of the site which shows the most recent changes and new pages, or check out the Recent Changes special page for a full list.

Summary for the week ending Oct 8, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending October 8th, 2017.

We’re in the thick of Inktober now! I’d been thinking I would post panels for season 2 of Aethyrs every day, but then I remembered that I’ve recently started to work on having time for other projects, instead of being busy on only the library absolutely every day for more hours than full time each week. So, I took the weekend off from posting new Aethyrs, while I was taking a planned break from working on the library. But, I’ve got most dialog for the month sketched out in draft, though I’ve not yet got the entire month figure out yet.

Aethyrs 2 panel 3 I didn't do that

Anyone want to do guest panels for this season?

Summary for the week ending Oct 1, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending October 1st, 2017.

Well, the deadline for submissions to both Hermetic Library and Odd Order anthologies has past! I’m getting submissions sorted and will now start to work on creating cogent playlists. Look for the Odd Order anthology in the next month or so. The library anthology will release in December, as usual.

I’ve been in contact with someone about the cover for the library anthology, but that’s not settled yet. If you want to talk about being featured as the cover artist this year, let me know.

Also, it’s Inktober! So, I’ve started posting panels for season 2 of Aethyrs. Those should post every day this month, if I keep up and get them done. Last season was a meditation on the theme “As brothers fight ye!” and this season is “Do that, and no other shall say nay.” Or something like that. We will see!

Aethyrs 2 panel 1 Do that, and no other shall say nay

Anyone want to do guest panels for this season?

Another milestone which happened at the turn into October is that we’ve come full circle to the point in the year when I started to post notable calendar dates, such as rituals and feasts. It’s wild that it’s been a whole year already! I’m thinking of posting a summary of all those this week, but I’m ready with all those previously posted as well as some new additions for this coming cycle.

I started with T Polyphilus’ Liturgical Calendar, but I’ve been adding more and others as I’ve gone. So, take a gander at what I’ve posted, and let me know if you have any additions to what I’ve posted over the last year.

Last week was Banned Books Week again. It’s always a good time to remember that there’s lots of fun and interesting material and authors at the library that some people find subversive, offensive, or outsider. It’s material some people don’t want you to read from authors some people hate that some people wish wasn’t online.

Banned Books Week always reminds me that there are people who wish Hermetic Library didn’t exist, and how I’m glad that I was the one that took on the role as librarian to keep it going and growing, instead of the alternatives. It’s not always easy to keep going, to be honest, but it’s an honor and privilege to be of service as librarian. But, weeks like this last one focused on censorship make me recall times when the work of the library has come under direct threat, times I’ve been asked to remove someone’s name from something because they are being harassed, or when the things I’ve linked to disappear, and so on. I’m also reminded of all the times that I’ve self-censored what I’m doing at the library. I don’t really talk about it a lot, but, both on a personal and on a subject matter level, the struggle to keep the library going is real. So, I guess what I’m saying is that being the librarian has been a privilege, but it has also been solemn with adversity.

I stand in solidarity with all authors, scholars and practitioners, at the library or in the community beyond, who were and are and are to come, that face harassment, discrimination, and censorship—or worse. Let’s celebrate all that we’ve accomplished! Let’s all keep going and fighting the good fight to accomplish our ongoing work! Let’s lend what support we can to those across the whole community doing their work in the world in spite of opposition to what they do, how they do it, and who they are while they do it!

Lots of new pages and work on old pages on the site, which is pretty much every week, really. You can always check the front page of the site which shows the most recent changes and new pages, or check out the Recent Changes special page for a full list.

Summary for the week ending Sep 24, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending September 24th, 2017.

There was a cold snap this last week. I actually fired up the wood stove one morning for the first time since last winter. It’s starting to get all dark and blustery up in here, though I understand it might get into the 80s for a last hurrah a couple days this week. However, I have a nagging feeling it will be a long cold winter this time around. The library cats and I are starting to feel it coming on the winds with rain. It’s going to take some serious effort to keep spirits up though.

Getting lots of pages up for languages other than English, now that the tools are in place to handle that. There’s so many pages on the site that it will take a long time, if ever, for everything to get done, but there’s a lot of the technical books of Thelema getting in place. A large number in Portuguese have been added, thanks to a great volunteer, and I’ve been adding new portal graphics and fixing import cruft on the matching English pages as we go. I’ve also been working through German, Esperanto, Spanish and French as I can, which is slowly, but I’m making progress.

And, really, let’s be honest, I mentioned a while ago that I’m not really fluent in any of those, or the languages that haven’t even been started. I’m sure my translations are less than ideal, but I’m doing what I can with what I’ve got. If you, or someone you know, might be interested in helping with any of the various language portals, do let me know.

I’d love to get source materials up for Latin and Classical Greek along with other source material in other languages, which can then be added in English translation to the main site. That’s a whole project that I haven’t started, and wish there was someone, or ones, interested in taking that on as a project.

Welp. Reader’s Theatre: Household Gods was a bit of a bust. Only one person showed up, and only to listen, so I called it off. If it’s just me participating, it’s basically a podcast; so I might as well record it directly instead of through voice chat, if I’m going to do it. And, maybe that’s how I should do it, if I keep doing it.

Maybe there just isn’t interest in the idea of Reader’s Theatre, or in voice chat, in general, for the library. If you’ve got ideas of what you’d want to attend or participate in as far as events over in voice chat, let me know. Or for another library podcast or video? Also, if you are interested in hosting or being a guest for an event, interview, class, or soever in voice chat or podcast or video get in touch and let’s talk about getting things going!

It’s less than a week before the September 30th deadline for submissions for Magick, Music and Ritual 13 and to GIT COMMIT GLITCH, the Odd Order anthology. (I’ve not yet gotten submissions for the Odd Order anthology so far, so I may have to skip this year; though I’ve heard of two that might come in. So, get something to me! I’m going to be sad if I can’t even offer an EP to showcase some awesome artists.) If you’re working on a submission, hurry! If you’re not … time to start!

Lots of new pages and work on old pages on the site, which is pretty much every week, really. You can always check the front page of the site which shows the most recent changes and new pages, or check out the Recent Changes special page for a full list.

Summary for the week ending Sep 17, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending September 17th, 2017.

The first rain in two months at the library, in the PNW even! And, it has started to get darker and colder in the mornings. But, at least the forest fires and smoke have also had rain on them as well. Switched from running the AC to running a dehumidifier this weekend.

I once made a list of characteristics I felt should be included in an ideal workplace, and having open hours that matched the changing local daylight was one of them. As it gets darker, I’ve been getting up to start work on the library later, so, in a way, I’ve got that now! Still up and at it around dawn, until noon; and there’s still so much to do, old and new pages alike.

I’ve decided to set office hours, which I was doing every day while working on the library, to just Tuesday morning, over in voice chat. I’ll try that for a while and see how it goes. Since I started to do those, I’ve had a few people, and a couple Patrons, stop by, but not a lot. There’s no specific purpose for them, other than a kind of unstructured time and place, if people have something about the library they want to talk about. Part of it was for a bit of virtual co-working as well, but it’s been so quiet there’s not much reason to do it every day.

This week is Reader’s Theatre: Household Gods, Thu Sep 21, 7-9pm Pacific, in voice chat, so, you know, mark your calendar, and maybe gander at Household Gods and think about how awesome it would be to participate!

Got ideas of what you’d want to attend or participate in as far as events over in voice chat? Or for another library podcast or video? Summary for the week ending Sep 3, 2017

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending September 3rd, 2017.

This week, the Hermetic Library page over on Facebook past 80,000 followers. That’s a crazy big number! I’m a little bitter that I only reach a small fraction of those followers, even when I posted to thank them all, old and new alike, but, it is what it is, is it not? The Hermetic Library presence on Twitter recently passed 14,000, and the main library Tumblog is set to pass 12,000 followers this week. Pretty cool! So, if you’re following on social media, and missed any of my posts saying thanks, or are just following along on the blog, or even if you’re just checking the actual website and none of the other stuff: thank you for being a fan of the Hermetic Library! I’m a fan too!

I posted the podcast and video of Hermetic Library Reader’s Theatre 17aug2017 last week. This week, on Thursday, I’ll be announcing the next Reader’s Theatre, including the theme and date, but *spoiler alert* I’m planning on third Thursday in September, in voice chat, so, you know, mark your calendar, and maybe gander at Household Gods, for, um, no reason at all, why do you ask? *wink, wink*

Got ideas of what you’d want to attend or participate in as far as events over in voice chat? Or for another library podcast or video? Also, if you are interested in hosting or being a guest for an event, interview, class, or soever in voice chat or podcast or video get in touch and let’s talk about getting things going!
